Gold Rate Calculation & Market Data Methodology
AssetRateHub is committed to complete mathematical transparency and data integrity. This document details how bullion rates are collected, verified, converted across purities, normalized across units, and presented to users.
1. Primary Market Data Sources
Domestic bullion rates in Pakistan are not dictated by a single automated exchange. Instead, the market operates through a consensus bulletin published by registered bullion trade bodies:
Karachi Sarafa & Jewellers Association
As Pakistan’s primary port of entry and main physical trading center, Karachi serves as the national baseline. The Karachi Sarafa Association releases official morning and afternoon closing bulletins representing 24K and 22K per tola and per 10 grams.
All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association (APGJSA)
Apex trade federation that coordinates daily inter-city bullion pricing, factoring in international LBMA spot shifts, currency fluctuations, and local supply-demand balances.
2. Karat Purity Formulas (Fineness Standard)
When a source releases the baseline 24 Karat (99.9% pure) rate, all other karats are mathematically derived using the international millesimal fineness ratio:
| Karat | Purity Fraction | Fineness (Parts per 1000) | Derivation Formula |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K (Pure Bullion) | 24 / 24 = 1.000 | 999.0 / 1000 (99.9%) | Source Benchmark Rate |
| 22K (Jewelry Standard) | 22 / 24 ≈ 0.9167 | 916.7 / 1000 (91.67%) | Rate_24K × (22 ÷ 24) |
| 21K (Middle Eastern Style) | 21 / 24 = 0.8750 | 875.0 / 1000 (87.50%) | Rate_24K × (21 ÷ 24) |
| 18K (Diamond Jewelry) | 18 / 24 = 0.7500 | 750.0 / 1000 (75.00%) | Rate_24K × (18 ÷ 24) |
3. Unit Weight Conversion Constants
AssetRateHub relies strictly on the official metric-equivalent South Asian bullion conversion standards:
4. Bullion Benchmark vs. Retail Jewelry Pricing
A critical distinction on AssetRateHub: The rates published on our pages represent raw bullion commodity value (unworked gold bars/biscuits). When purchasing finished jewelry from a retail goldsmith, additional retail factors apply:
- Craftsmanship / Making Charges (Katai / Jarai): Goldsmith charges for design intricacy, ranging typically from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 4,000+ per tola or 5%–15% of metal value.
- Non-Gold Component Adjustments: Enamel (meena), synthetic stones, or beads should be weighed separately and deducted from the gold metal weight before calculation.
- Wastage (Kaat): Material loss during casting and polishing, negotiated between the buyer and the jeweler.
5. Update Frequency & Data Auditing
AssetRateHub updates its data engine continuously during active market sessions (Monday to Saturday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM PKT). Every rate display includes an exact ISO timestamp, timezone designation, and freshness badge.
